Meeting People Where They Are: The Body of Work

I attended a workshop last week as a part of my Residency Program with Trudi Lebron centered around the Body of Work.  The timing could not have been better.I am a career educator with degrees in History and English.  I worked in schools in some capacity for nearly 25 years before I started “officially” coaching and became ICF and Body Mind licensed.  I am also a licensed Yoga Instructor.   All of this makes sense to me in that it all seems a part of the trajectory of my work and yet, on paper or when I tried to articulate it all, it seemed scattered and squirrely.  I had a resume open in a tab on my computer that needed updating for another residency at Wild Acres where I hope to finish the draft of my first novel.  The last update was when I was applying to teach First Year Writing at a local university in 2020.  Whew a lot has changed in these 6 years.

I was paralyzed by how to even begin to align my professional life in a way that didn’t make me look, well, scattered and squirrely. And then listening to Trudi talk about the Body of Work and describe her own professional journey, it hit me right between the eyes.  I’ve been doing the same dang thing for over thirty years.

I’ve been meeting people right where they are and empowering them to go wherever they want to go next.It happened in the Middle School and High School classrooms.  It happened in Cross Country practice.  It happened in the First Year Writing classroom and in Graduate Level courses.  It happens in yoga studios and private practices. It happens with my clients who want to write books and with those who are trying to break cycles.I’ve been coaching for 30 years, because not a single time was it about the subject matter or the thing.

It was about the person in front of me.  So my educator and advocacy work goes hand in hand with my yoga and coaching work, because it all has the same goal.I finished my resume in the workshop (if you want to get stuff done, hang out with Trudi!) I finished my residency application the next day.  Why am I telling you this?Because surrounding myself with people who stretch me, empower me and coach me is powerful for me.  This is your invitation to do the same . . .

Hit reply and I’ll meet you, right where you are!

XOXO,

Cindy
